Open Position—Upper Elementary Teacher
Full- or Part-Time (Monday-Thursday OR Monday-Friday)
Starts August 2019
Nomad’s upper elementary program (ages 7-10) will first launch in the fall of 2019; therefore, the upper elementary teacher will play a key role in building and designing this new program. Our program is rapidly evolving, so candidates must be enthusiastic about wearing many hats and taking on a variety of additional roles as needed.
We are seeking a full-time upper elementary teacher who is passionate about progressive, project-based education, loves collaborating with 7-10 year olds in inquiry and play, and is confident working closely in small teams of colleagues and parents. The ideal candidate for this position has experience working with gifted, twice-exceptional, and/or neuro-diverse students and loves active, constructivist pedagogy. Our program immerses students in thematic concepts through frequent excursions and field trips (2x per week), expert-led workshops, individual and small-group projects, and play. Our educators prioritize utilizing the natural world and larger community as fundamental resources to learning.
Job Responsibilities
Teach confidently and passionately, meeting the individual needs of each student
Sustain a culture where all students and staff are valued and seen as unique, dynamic people
Create an inquiry-based learning environment and hands-on, project-based experiences that promote curiosity, honor the creative expression of students, and drive critical thinking.
Develop and differentiate curriculum, assessments, and projects for all learners
Document class experiences through photographs and daily narrative updates for families
Communicate families regularly and proactively
Facilitate conferences with students and parents that leverage the strengths of students to promote academic, social, and emotional growth
Commit to ongoing professional development
Oversee students in the workshop and ensure proper safety around all tools and equipment at all times
Participate in monthly community meetings held in the evening
Assist with admissions process as needed
May be required to become a certified bus driver and drive the Nomad school bus

Qualifications
Experience teaching elementary school
Degree in education or relevant discipline (strongly preferred)
A desire to collaborate with staff to create interdisciplinary learning experiences
Excellent communication skills
Love of students ages 7-10
